ELK/Moose safari near helsinki

Eurasian Elk / Moose (Alces alces) is an iconic, majestic forest dweller. It is the largest species within the deer family. You will be surprised by its size when you see one!

Explore Finland’s wild side—not just with your eyes, but with understanding. We offer authentic wildlife experiences guided by professional biologists. You will gain meaningful insight into the nature around you—turning every Elk sighting into a journey of discovery.

Our guests feel personally welcome. At the end of the Safari we invite you to discover the gentle warmth of Finnish hospitality during a visit to a traditional red wooden home.

P.S. Whether you call it a Moose or an Elk, here in Europe both names refer to the same noble giant—the native Eurasian species, Alces alces.

Guided ELK / moose safari

The best time to observe Elk / Moose is from May to September, particularly at dusk. During summer, it is possible to spot a calf or two following their mother as she takes them to graze in open areas such as crop fields.

We visit locations where Elks and other mammals are frequently observed. Your guide is a local resident, a biologist, who has excellent knowledge about nature and wildlife of the area. We are also well equipped for the Elk watching. Binoculars are provided to increase your chances of spotting Elks, and a telescope is available for a close-up view of Elks and other animals. If you wish, you can try digi-scoping with our telescope to capture memories from your Elk watching trip. Furthermore, our thermal cameras reveal even more wildlife in the vicinity!

We use car for our excursions to avoid disturbing the wildlife.

other wildlife

During our Elk / Moose Safari it is also possible to encounter White-tailed Deer (Odocoileus virginianus), Roedeer (Capreolus capreolus) and Fallow Deer (Dama dama). White-tailed Deer and Roe Deer are usually less timid, making them easier to spot. Thus, if you are lucky, you could see four deer species!

With a very good luck the Elk / Moose Safari can turn into an extraordinary experience. Couple of times we have managed to spot even a Eurasian Lynx (Lynx lynx) and a Badger (Meles meles) and ….. even a Grey Wolf (Canis lupus)!

Amazing The excursion was amazing. Everything was so well organized. Marita and Petri picked us up at the metro station, and we drove to the forest to see many species of deer, birds, and elk.
We were able to see the animals very clearly thanks to their telescope and binoculars. Marita and Petri are truly lovely people with great knowledge about nature. This memory will last forever — thank you so much for sharing all your knowledge and that wonderful nature with us! Tuscolini

Amazing moose tour by Petri and Marita If you are near Helsinki or Kirkkonummi and want to do a moose/elk tour, look no further.
My guide was Petri and he was wonderful. Came to pick us up at our place and as a biologist he is very knowledgeable about nature and wildlife in the area. We saw many white tailed deer and roe deer, multiple moose (including a male moose very close by) and we even saw a lynx!! (Although I know we were extremely lucky). After the light became less and less Petri didn’t hesitate to help and try to tick off a couple other species I have never seen before. Amazing experience and wonderful people, would definitely recommend and I might be back when the situation arises! Bruce Sellmeijer

Amazing Elk Tour– We did a Elk-Tour with Marita und Petri and it was amazing! We saw a lot of Elks and different deer species. They showed us their beautiful house and big garden and we could even spend the night in the tree tent, a special experience too! Marita and Petri know a lot of all the animals and their behavior, they showed us the spots where these majestic animals eat and live. We had an amazing time and recommand this tour to everyone who wants to have an authentic finnish nature experience, thank you very much Marita and Petri for this special tour and all the informations! We will never forget this evening! Aline

Great moose sightings – We went on an evening trip with Petri and enjoyed it very much! Saw lots of different birds, deer and – our personal highlight – several elks. Petri is a wonderful, competent guide who also gave us lots of information about the land and its history. Easily reachable from Helsinki by train. IreneZH

Best memory of our trip!!The excursion was amazing. Marita and Petri came to meet us at the railway station and went directly see many species of dears in the wild. We could see the animals very clearly thanks to their telescope and binoculars. When the night came, they gave us thermal cameras to spot animals while driving. We were so lucky to spot an elk and a lynx!! We did some tea and homemade glogi breaks with some snacks made by Marita. This memory will be forever in our minds, thank you so much! Marianne F
